GA Voter Registration

Register to Vote in Georgia

You can submit the application form:

By Mail

The mail-in GA voter registration application is available online and at many locations throughout your county. You can:

Mail the application to the address on the form. You should receive your voter registration card by mail within 4 weeks. If you have not received your card after 4 weeks, contact your county board of registrars.

In Person

You can register to vote in person with the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) when you:

Proof of Identification

If you’re voting in person in GA, you’re required to show a current photo ID. Accepted IDs include:

  • A valid employee photo ID issued by any entity of the US. Government, or any county or entity of the state.
  • A valid U.S. passport.
  • A valid U.S. military ID (with photo).
  • A valid tribal ID (with photo).
  • Any valid photo ID issued by the state or federal government.
  • This includes free Voter ID cards. (See below).
  • Georgia Voter ID Cards

    You can request a free Voter Identification card if you don’t possess one of the accepted forms of ID listed above.

  • A photo ID document.
  • If you don’t have one, you can show an approved document that doesn’t have a photo but has your full legal name and birth date.
  • Proof of your date of birth.
  • Proof that you are currently a registered voter.
  • Documentation that provides your name and residential address.
  • Out-of-State & Military Voter Registration

    Legal residents of Georgia currently outside of the state, overseas, or actively serving in the military can still register to vote in GA.

    Military Personnel and Overseas Residents

    Military personnel and their dependents, as well as other Georgia residents currently overseas, can register to vote using the FPCA, or Federal Post Card Application (form 76). This form enables you to both register and request an absentee ballot at the same time.

  • By e-mail.
  • By fax.
  • By mail.
  • You can also complete your FPCA online through the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP).

    Out-of-State Residents

    College students and other permanent Georgia residents temporarily living or traveling out of the state can complete their Georgia voter registration by mail.

    NOTE: If you know you’ll be outside of Georgia during the election, you should request an absentee ballot.

    Voter Registration Deadlines in GA

    If you do not register to vote by the registration deadline, you will not be able to vote in the upcoming election.

    Changing Your Voter Address

    You must update the address on your voter registration when you move within the state of Georgia.
